Pastor Alex Golovenko was born in Ukraine to Adventist parents, serving God during a time of persecution by the Communist Regime through 1970s and 1980s.
In 1992 he came to study in Canada and earned a Bachelor of Science (Biology) degree in 1996 from Canadian Union College,
and then a Bachelor of Religious Studies (Pastoral Ministry) degree in 1999 from the same school, renamed then Canadian University College (currently Burman University) in Alberta.
In 1993 while working on the family farm in Saskatchewan he met and married the love of his life Sandra Lopez Gomez, originally from Nicaragua.
The family is blessed with four sons: Stepan (1994) a Behavioral Science student at Burman University, Michael (1997) Architectural Technology student at St. Clair College,
and two high schoolers, Daniel (1999) and Samuel (2001).
Pastor Golovenko was ordained as an elder in 1997 at the College Heights Seventh-day Adventist Church in Alberta while ministering to early teens
and interning under the mentorship of pastor Ron Sydenham. He began his ministry in Ontario in June 1999 as a Bible worker in Niagara Region, and
continued as the intern pastor for St. Catharines and Niagara Falls churches from September 1999 to July 2002 under the mentorship of pastor Dan Linrud.
In August 2002 the family moved to Berrien Springs, Michigan where Alex pursued and earned a Master of Divinity degree in December 2004.
During his studies he continued ministry at the Pioneer Memorial church under the tutelage of pastor Ester Knott.
The family returned to Ontario to serve the London Seventh-day Adventist Churches starting on January 1, 2005.
Pastor Golovenko ministered to the London and North London congregations until August 2009.
Churches grew in numbers and new ministries were launched.
The Elementary School (now A.C.E.S of London) was opened in 2007.
The Spanish congregation was planted in 2008 and Western University Campus outreach became more organized.
Pastor Rudy Alvir was assigned in 2009 to serve the North London church, the Spanish company and the Western Students.
From September 2009 pastor Golovenko invested in furthering his education by working on the Doctor of Ministry degree,
and defended his thesis toward Biblical Theology of Leadership in September 2013.
During this time he worked to further develop outreach ministries of the London church, resulting in the active Open House Community service,
and planting a new congregation in 2014 for West London, the Living Truth Company, currently worshipping at the Oakridge Presbyterian church in the Hyde Park area of London.
After 11 years of fruitful service in London, pastor Golovenko accepted the call to serve in Windsor.
Alex’s parents, Anatoli and Nadia Golovenko, now retired, live with the family, and are actively involved in the church life.
Sandra loves gardening, works at the hospital and creates beauty wherever she works.
Currently the family is selling their home in London and house-hunting in the Windsor area, hoping to move in the spring.
Pastor Alex plays piano, guitar, trombone, accordion and other instruments.
Loves books! His personal library has over 3,000 volumes. With teaching and empowering as his top spiritual gifts he always invests in developing people.
Pastor Golovenko’s credo in life and ministry is “being a faithful servant,” trusting God, and ordering his steps always.
